Learn best practices

Countries with natural resources advised to learn the best practices- Phytain

By Juliet Aguiar

African countries with natural resources have been advised to learn from the strength and weakness of other countries on policy approaches and best practices to be able to succeed.

There are several lessons from countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda among others that will help in the development of these natural resources by other countries if they choose to learn from these lessons.

Nicolas Phythain, a Facilitator at the on-going media course on oil and gas and mining for Journalists from Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda at Dar es Salaam in Tanzania has said.

He cited the example of differences between Petroleum policy approaches by Uganda and Ghana which both have lessens to be learnt.

Phythain explained that Ghana's passage of policies such as the Local Content –Legislative Instrument (LI) and the Petroleum Revenue Management Act before the main Petroleum Exploration and Production Act is in sharp contrast to Uganda's approach of taking its time to pass relevant Exploration and Production laws before the passage of revenue management regulations.
